How did the Virtual Foundation begin?
The Virtual Foundation was founded by
Randy Kritkausky, Founder and President of
ECOLOGIA, now Director of the Virtual
Foundation. He tells the story in his
Message from the Director.
Who works on the Virtual Foundation?
ECOLOGIA staff
in the U.S. and Lithuania. The
Advisory Committee plays a big role, as do the
Consortium Partners.
How does it work?
This is best explained with
an example.
How many projects have been funded?
Numerous projects have received funding. Some are:
partially funded,
fully funded and being implemented,
already finished with final reports
available.
How do I donate?
Donating is simple. Just tell us who you are, how much you'd like to give,
and where you'd like it to go. There are
detailed instructions.
Who has already given?
We have a growing
list of donors.
What are matching funds?
Matching funds are money given to the Virtual Foundation to augment the gifts
of donors. For instance, if you give $100 to a project, $100 of matching
funds may be added to that, doubling the amount of your donation.
Here's more information.
Do I have to give over the Internet?
Absolutely not. In fact, we do not accept payment over the Internet, only
by mail. If at any point you would like to talk to someone about
the Virtual Foundation, please call ECOLOGIA at (888) 801-7101 and ask for
Randy or Alyssa.
How do I know it's legitimate?
The Virtual Foundation is a solid project, partly supported by well-known
foundations. See online grant information for gifts to us from
The
Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and
The Rockefeller
Brothers Fund.
We have been written about in several publications in several media, such as
this
article by
Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, if you file for taxes in the US. See the
Tax Deductibility page.
When I donate, do I need to give my address, phone number, and
e-mail address?
No, although this information is helpful to us. Of course, we need one of
the three to be able to contact you; for instance, to send your receipt
for tax purposes.
However, we do not make our donor list available to anyone, but like to
list donor names on the web site and for other promotional purposes.
If you have any special requests regarding this matter, please let us know
and we'll do our best to accomodate them.
Can I donate anonymously?
Yes. Simply click the Anonymous button when asked "Under what name shall we
list the donation?" on the Donate Form.
I have an idea for a project. How do I put it on the Virtual
Foundation?
If you are an organization that has a project that needs funding, read
these instructions.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept proposals submitted directly to the
Virtual Foundation.
If you would like to give money to the Virtual Foundation, but can't find a
project that exactly fits your interests, you may
design a project. Your idea will be sent
to organizations that could implement the project.
