Progress Report

Note: This proposal is part of a pilot cooperation between ECOLOGIA and our partner in China. This proposal will be further evolving cooperatively.

This environmental education project is a community activity. The main goal of the project is to provide a booklet, a planting box, and seeds to enable children to participate in the "Grow a Tree" Program. The project targets school children and gets kids involved at early age, so they will know from the beginning how important the environment is.

In 1994, about 10,000 children from 12 elementary schools in Haidian District, Beijing participated in the program and planted over 400,000 seeds. In the spring of 1995, more than 25,000 children from Haidian District and Shunyi County joined in the program too.

The goal is that in the spring, 140 children from The Second Elementary School of Fu Xing Men Wai, Xicheng District, Beijing take part in this project. After two or three years, all the seedlings planted in school yards will be moved to the countryside.
