Result: This project provided a complete e-mail station so that the Health Center can obtain outside information and consultation on the link between environmental conditions and health in Armenia.

Comment: A Virtual Foundation Consortium partner, the Sacred Earth Network, provided valuable technical support to the Health Center, allowing it to develop its first direct and continual link to much needed foreign expertise.

This group is requesting a complete E-mail station, which includes a computer, modem and printer.

Project Areas:
Our group studies socio-environmental conditions in the Yerevan region, and the extent to which public health and mortality levels are related to the state of the environment. Current/recent Projects include:

• an analysis of socio-environmental conditions as the breeding ground for poor public health
• study of the effect of negative environmental factors on human life, health and death
• publication of the Medical-Environmental Atlas of Armenia (156 pages, more than 200 color maps)

About the Sacred Earth Network's e-mail equipment program: The Sacred Earth Network (SEN) provides middle-ground equipment (not top-of-the-line, but reliable equipment). Recipients sign a 2 year contract committing themselves to using the granted equipment to communicate for their environmentally oriented work.

After delivering the equipment, training recipients on computer and E-mail use, and making sure groups open e-mail accounts, SEN's Moscow technical and project staff provides considerable post hook-up consultation to ensure that participants become reliable e-mail users.

SEN's Moscow staff will provide training and follow-up consultation for any environmental group granted equipment by Virtual Foundation donors.
