Consortium Members

(Local Partners)

Consortium Members are the "Local Partners" of the Virtual Foundation network. Each Consortium Member is an experienced grant-making organization in its own country or region. The Consortium Members provide the crucial on-the-ground link between the Non-Governmental Organizations who create and implement the projects on this web site, and the Virtual Foundation staff.

Consortium Members solicit and screen proposals, handle transfers of funds, supervise project implementation, and collect final reports. They take responsibility for the projects of the groups they work with. They have English language capacity and e-mail access, which enables them to communicate directly with the Virtual Foundation. Thus, the Non-Governmental Organizations designing and carrying out the projects do not need their own English language staff or e-mail.

The Virtual Foundation Board of Directors acts on recommendations from its staff, to review and vote on applications for Consortium Membership. As of October 2006, there are 20 different Consortium Members, covering a total of 24 different countries.
