Zala Briviba (ZB), "Green Liberty" was established in 1991 and registered as a NGO in 1993.The ZB's mission is to develop a society in which people live in harmony with each other and their environment. The ZB aims to: inform people of the social and environmental implications of current trends in consumerism, trade and globalization; empower people to participate more effectively in decisions that impact directly and indirectly on their lives; and oppose abuses of power.

The Green Liberty's main fields of work are serving its clients with good quality environmental information, and work on issues like: International financial institutions and Trans-national corporations, Food and agriculture, Consumerism, Climate Change, Agenda 21 and local development. It is the only environmental resource center of its kind in Latvia. It works with other NGOs as well as with the mass media and various institutions. It co-operates in local and international networks (including VAK, Friends of the Earth, Coalition Clean Baltic) and co-operates with other organizations in Latvia and abroad. Students are also important users of its services, especially over the winter.

The ZB has organized press briefings, conferences, exhibitions, public lectures, expositions and demonstrated environmental video recordings. ZB publishes environmental information, organizes different cultural and environmental actions, and works to popularize environmental literature and alternative approaches and lifestyles. Financial and in-kind donations and grants support the ZB.

Zala Briviba has coordinated ECOLOGIA's Baltic Mini-Grant Program in Latvia since 1995, administering over 75 small grants to Latvian NGOs for their grassroots community based environmental projects. Members of other Latvian NGOs participate as advisors as well. Zala Briviba looks forward to participating in the Virtual Foundation as an avenue to develop worldwide connections for the Latvian environmental community.
